Avis has been a CarbonNeutral® company since 2000. Every tonne of CO₂we produce is offset through climate-friendly or forestry projects.

We are proud to say that Avis was actually the first car rental company to become CarbonNeutral®. The CarbonNeutral Company works with us to help us to measure and reduce our CO₂ and then offset any unavoidable emissions.

We have offset more than 167,810 tonnes of CO₂ since 1997 and offer you the chance to offset your car rental carbon footprint so you can become CarbonNeutral® for just £1.

Yugur Run-of-River Hydro Project

Using the natural capacity of a section of the 800km long Heihe River in the Gansu Province of The People’s Republic of China, this run-of-river project consists of two 6.5 MW turbines to supply zero-emissions renewable electricity to the Northwest China Grid. M).

Methane Capture Project

As you know from driving around the countryside, animal waste smells! But it also releases a large amount of methane into the atmosphere as the waste decomposes. Methane is really bad for the environment and the greenhouse gas emission damages the ozone layer. This project captures the methane from three farms in Germany and then turns it into electricity and heat.

Guizhou Province Renewable Energy Project

Hydro-electricity is electricity generated by water and is much cleaner than fossil fuels which release pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, dust, and mercury into the environment. This project has built small and medium hydro power stations in Guizhou Province, southwest China. It improves the lives of people living in the region as it keeps the air clean.

Forestry Projects – planting trees for future generations

Since 2002, we have contributed towards planting more than 200 hectares of woodland in nine locations in the UK and Europe. In partnership with CarbonNeutral® these include creating a new native woodland in the heart of Snowdonia in Wales and an eco-park at an old missile base in Germany.
